Job Summary
The Community College of Rhode Island Music Program provides affordable access to an associate’s degree with a concentration in Classical or Jazz studies. Through excellent teaching, quality course offerings, and ongoing transfer agreements with many schools, we offer music students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for effective transfer to a four-year music degree program.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
    • Work collaboratively with others in a diverse and inclusive environment.
    • Work collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive, and student-centered environment, with students of various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences.

 

Recruitment
  • Recruit for the Music Program as well as support instrumental ensembles especially with regard to brass.
Student Focus
  • Advise students in the area of transfer to four-year colleges such as Rhode Island College or University of Rhode Island.
Curriculum Development
  • Use innovative instructional strategies and technology that support student success and recognize diverse learning styles.
Departmental Support
  • Contribute to a dynamic teaching and learning environment requiring teamwork, creativity, and adaptability.
  • Participate and teach at multi-campus locations as required by departmental needs.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide activities and committee work.
  • Demonstrate commitment to collaboration and collegiality.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Minimum Requirements
  • Doctorate or ABD “All But Dissertation” in trumpet performance or closely related field is required prior to start date of position.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching trumpet and other brass instruments.
  • At least three years of teaching at the college level.

 

Competencies and Desired Qualifications
The most suitably qualified candidate will possess the following competencies:
  • Evidence of significant performance experience and professional activity and/or research as a performing artist (e.g., soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, and/or other genres of performance) that demonstrates the potential to emerge as a leader in the field of trumpet performance.
  • Ability to perform both Classical Music as well as some Jazz style experience.
  • Possess experience in teaching Music Theory and Sightsinging & Ear Training at the freshman/sophomore levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook.
  • Excellence in Blackboard LMS and evidence-based best practices that improve student achievement
