Montgomery College, Central Services, has an immediate need for a full-time Alumni Specialist in the Advancement Department.   The work schedule is generally Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, but will require regular and direct support of, and attendance at, evening and weekend events, meetings, and activities as needed. This is a non-bargaining, non-exempt, grade 25 position. Non-exempt positions are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. The Alumni Specialist is responsible for implementing the Alumni Association programs and the Association’s Board of Governors goals and objectives assisting with strategy development, ensuring effective management and coordination of alumni board undertakings with other College boards (Foundation and Trustees), recommending and carrying out communication with alumni, and encouraging the involvement and development of alumni in supporting Montgomery College. The incumbent develops and initiates strategies to sustain and strengthen the linkages between students, employees, alumni, and retirees.

The work of this job class involves isolating and defining unexpected situations and/or resolving critical problems, and the work product and services affecting the work of major aspects of administrative or technical programs, and usually consists of varied duties involving a wide range of processes and methods, such as those relating to established practices of an administrative or professional field.

Contacts are with college staff, current and former students, faculty, retirees, Alumni Board of Governors, community members, representatives of local businesses, donors, elected officials, and friends of the College to exchange information, spot-lighting alumni, and develop and maintain financial and volunteer support for the Alumni Association and the College.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develops workshops, programs, lectures, and other activities of interest to students, alumni, and the College community.
  • Develops and implements regular communications with graduates, former students, retirees, and friends of the College, information packets to recent graduates, the electronic alumni newsletter, and online communications.
  • Develops and implements strategies to involve former and current students in activities designed to elevate the importance and contributions of a strong Alumni Association among current students.
  • Conceptualizes, designs, produces, and prepares for distribution of various publications, display materials, and marketing materials, including flyers, invitations, programs, displays, mementos, brochures, and posters independently to ease the workload for publications staff.  
  • Coordinates with creative services staff to ensure consistent application of alumni branding, correct use of college branding, and quality control throughout the process.
  • Researches and investigates information on former students at the College for use in articles and promotional activities for the College and its Alumni Association, as well as to be included in briefings for the College President and other leaders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, or related field or equivalent experience or any combination of education, training, and experience providing an understanding of the field.
  • At least three years of experience in communications, administrative responsibilities,  alumni programming, publication writing, and production; working with volunteers and a board of directors.
  • Working knowledge of communications, public relations, marketing/business, journalism, fundraising, project management, and event planning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PageMaker, the Internet, and other relevant software.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

The hiring range is $28.68 to $35.98 per hour. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.  Please include a complete resume including all relevant and related work experience.
