Assistant Director, Career Services

Class Description

The purpose of this position is supporting students' career development and employment readiness at CCBC. This position reports to the Director Academic and Career Advisement to design and implement programs and services that help students explore career paths, develop job search skills, and connect with employment opportunities. The Assistant Director collaborates with various stakeholders, including students, faculty, employers, and community partners, to promote career success among student.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree required, degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Education or related discipline preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of experience working within higher education, preferably at a community college that serves a diverse student population is required. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in career programming, and/or career counseling. A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience is required. Budget management experience preferred. Experience supporting diverse student populations facing complex academic, personal, social, and financial issues is strongly preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

1. Use cognitive skills to solve problems, develop, plan and implement short and long-range goals, and organize work or assigned projects. 
2. Disseminate information on CCBC policies, services and procedures to faculty, parents, and students etc.; specifically maintain a working knowledge of FERPA, COMAR and MHEC regulations.
 3. Assess transcripts and give a preliminary unofficial assessment of transfer credits to determine placement.
 4. Establish processes for systematic tracking of student academic progress.
 5. Collect and evaluate data on special populations and provide follow-up interventions including the preparation of special reports, as required. 
6. Collaborate with others in design of workshops and presentations, including professional development for targeted departments and functional units, including faculty. 7. Establish metrics, in collaboration with others, to track student progress.
 8. Provide leadership in design of a collaborative system for referrals to both internal and external resources and services to support student's educational planning.

Position Specific Essential Duties

1. Reports to and collaborates with the Director of Academic and Career Advisement to develop and implement comprehensive career development programs and initiatives.            
2. Identify and respond to the career-related needs of students, ensuring programs are relevant, inclusive, and aligned with industry trends and labor market demands.
3. Conduct ongoing research on career development best practices and emerging trends to inform program enhancements.                                                                              
4. Provide individual and group career counseling to students, assisting them in clarifying career goals, exploring career options, and developing career plans.                    
5. Assist students in developing effective job search strategies, including resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and networking skills.                                  
6. Conduct mock interviews and provide feedback to enhance students' interview performance.                                                                                                                             
7. Guide students in accessing resources such as career assessment tools, online job boards, and internship opportunities.                                                                                
8. Establish and maintain relationships with local employers, industry professionals, and community organizations to expand internship and employment opportunities for students. 9. Coordinate and promote career fairs, employer information sessions, and networking events to connect students with potential employers.   
10. Collaborate with faculty to integrate career development activities and resources into the curriculum, ensuring students receive comprehensive career preparation. 
11. Collect and analyze data on student outcomes, employment rates, and career service utilization to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services.
12. Prepare reports and presentations on career service metrics and trends for internal and external stakeholders.                                                                                            
13. Utilize technology platforms and systems to manage career service databases, student records, and job postings.                                                                                      
14. Collaborate with Academic and Career Advisors, faculty, and other campus departments to promote the integration of career development throughout the college community.              15. Assist in the supervision and training of career services staff, student workers, or interns, as applicable.                                                                                                       .
