Summary

This position includes a hybrid remote/on-site working arrangement. 

This position is in the Office of Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), a unit of the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR). The mission of the University of Michigan Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) is to protect the rights and welfare of research participants in research under U-M oversight and to promote compliance with relevant legal requirements and ethical standards at all levels, while also addressing the needs and concerns of researchers and enhancing support of their endeavors. 

The U-M HRPP is seeking a highly talented and motivated individual to join the team as a research compliance specialist. 

The Research Compliance Specialist will provide compliance monitoring activities, data management, and will contribute to various HRPP initiatives. This position reports to the HRPP Associate Director- HRPP Operations.

Responsibilities*

Monitor compliance with specific institutional policies. This includes analyzing specific cases to determine applicability, reviewing reports with aggregate data to identify potential non-compliance, and managing communications with investigators and study team members. 

Managing data in different platforms and preparing reports, as needed. 

Assist with special HRPP projects and other related duties.

Coordinate HRPP DEI efforts.

Assist with pre-review of submissions to the Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Research Oversight (HPSCRO) Program. 

Work with other program staff, developing and presenting educational materials, to ensure uniformity of review and compliance with standard operating procedures and applicable federal and state regulations. 

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal regulations as well as policies, guidelines and ethical codes related to research compliance.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree in relevant academic field. 

Strong organizational skills and attention to details. 

Strong writing skills. 

Demonstrated skills using computer applications for data retrieval and analysis.

Desired Qualifications*

Master's degree in Public Health or Behavioral Sciences. 

Experience in human research, research compliance, research administration, and/or auditing methods.

Familiarity with institutional policies related to research compliance. 

Working knowledge of federal regulations and guidance as they relate to human subject protections.
