Summary

Reporting to the Business Administrator Lead, the University of Michigan Law School is hiring a faculty assistant to provide complex secretarial support for multiple members of the academic faculty, including, but not limited to, tenured, tenure-track, visitors, adjuncts and emeriti as assigned. The selected candidate will perform a wide range of secretarial and administrative support for these faculty members. The selected candidate will have the option to take a three to eight week unpaid, seasonal leave during the summer.

Responsibilities*

- Prepare all course materials, including electronic and hard copies.
- Maintain faculty websites when required
- Electronic presentation preparation, including PowerPoint and Google Slides
- Careful editing and proofreading of documents, including but not limited to scholarly articles and correspondence
- Support and assist faculty with research endeavors, including, but not limited to, case and article retrieval using Westlaw, Lexis and other data bases
- Schedule complex travel itineraries
- Assist with expense report preparation and account reconciliations in accordance with University guidelines
- General secretarial duties including screening calls, arranging meetings, and maintaining busy calendars for multiple faculty members
- Perform complex tasks using Microsoft Office suite and G suite
- Handle confidential materials and communications appropriately

Required Qualifications*

- Bachelor's degree and at least one year of administrative experience OR 5+ years of progressively responsible administrative experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, G Suite, and Adobe Acrobat
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and balance multiple concurrent assignments and deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to show sound judgment and work independently, as well as the ability to work on a team in a professional and collaborative manner
- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
- High degree of confidentiality and ability to handle sensitive matters with tact and discretion
- Exemplary customer service skills
- Ability to move boxes and other materials.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time.


 

Desired Qualifications*

- Working knowledge of legal databases (LexisNexis, Westlaw, etc.)
- Prior experience with University M-Pathways system and Concur
- Prior experience with legal secretarial/writing terms
