Job Description

A postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Deeann Wallis within the Department of Genetics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

Job description:

Major/Essential Duties of Job:80%

Contribute towards research projects in the lab that will utilize both tissue culture, stem cell,  and animal models of Neurofibromatosis to tease out molecular mechanisms and corresponding pathways involved in sensitivity/resistance to disease/drugs. This will likely include utilization of high throughput screens to identify novel host-based targets and drug discovery. 

Occasional Job Duties: 20%

Oversee technicians and/or students working on same/similar projects

Other duties as assigned

Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with UA System guidelines

Required Education and Experience

PhD in basic science

Experience working with both tissue culture and animal models

Molecular biology skills: DNA/RNA/protein work, immunohistochemistry

BSL-2 training

Experience in cell-based assays

Communication skills (verbal and written)

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience with mouse models

Experience with CRISPR Cas9 systems

Experience in performing Preclinical trials

Cell Based Assay development includes: Immunohistochemistry, Imaging assays, Cell death/viability; neurotransmitter release, Westerns
