Position Summary

Northeast Alabama Community College employs adjunct instructors in academic areas on an as needed basis, depending on enrollment. The pay is based on the number of credit hours assigned per semester. The current minimum and maximum rate per credit hour taught is $562.65 and $750.20. The assigned rate is to be determined by the President. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The adjunct instructor teaches to fulfill the objectives of the program. The instructor is responsible to the Associate Dean of Instruction under the daily guidance of the Division Director and complies with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabi and with the schedule of classes.
  • Apply current methods and standards of the teaching profession.
  • Arrange time outside class for student consultation (which may include holding office hours).
  • Provide students, at the beginning of the semester, with a written announcement of student consultation arrangements, attendance requirements, and syllabus information (course description, textbooks, units, descriptions of major assignments and tests, and grading procedures).
  • Attend faculty meetings.
  • Secure permission from the Associate Dean of Instruction for absences and partial absences from assigned duties.
  • Become familiar with and conform to the policies of the College.
  • Assist in keeping the instructional program and resources at a high level of efficiency by recommending additional library materials, instructional equipment, and curricular improvements to the appropriate administrative officers.
  • Represent the College and its philosophy to prospective students and to others in the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrative officers, within the limits of the contractual term of employment.
  • Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College.
  • Perform other duties specific to the subject.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  

  • Master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the instructional area from an accredited institution is required*
  • Documented experience in the field of study is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of course content
  • Knowledge of established policies and procedures of the college and department
  • Skill in written and oral communication
  • Ability to present instructional material in an understandable manner
