Position Summary
The Division of Infectious Diseases Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for an Assistant Professor on the fixed term track. Duties include but are not limited to conducting fundamental research concerning the pathogenesis of human hepatovirus infections, including in particular in vitro studies aimed at elucidating molecular mechanisms underlying the cellular entry, replication and release of infectious virus in permissive cell cultures. The Research Assistant Professor will be responsible for designing and implementing all aspects of an independent research program related to hepatotropic human viruses, including the preparation of applications for financial support from agencies outside the University, the design, execution and interpretation of experiments, and the preparation of manuscripts detailing the results of the research as well as periodic reports to funding agencies. Depending upon his/her available effort after meeting these primary responsibilities, the Research Assistant Professor will support the funded research activities of other faculty members in the division as a collaborator, assuming responsibility for executing specific aspects of ongoing research programs. Secondary responsibilities will include contributing to the routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and occasional supervision and training of postdoctoral fellows, students and/or technicians.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
MD degree with board certification in Internal Medicine. Successful demonstration of securing research grants and evidence of scholarly publications. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Malawi conducting HIV and TB research.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Supervisory and/or mentoring and training experience with postdoctoral fellows, students and laboratory staff and/or experience as a TA or RA.
