Dr. Teomara Rutherford seeks a postdoctoral scholar to work on an NSF CAREER project, The Measurement and Influence of Mathematics Motivation in a Digital Context. The postdoctoral scholar will be based in the School of Education at the University of Delaware. The project leverages learning analytics and experience sampling methods to understand how student motivation and affect associate with choices in a mathematics learning platform, and to design and test nudges toward choices that result in greater learning and progress.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Educational Psychology, Learning Sciences, Informatics, or Computer Science.

Duties include: Project management; interfacing with school districts, schools, teachers, and software developer; data cleaning and organization; field visits and observations; supervising graduate student or undergraduate researchers; data analysis; writing manuscripts and preparing presentations.

Background knowledge desired: Doctoral degree in educational psychology or learning sciences theories, especially relating to motivation; educational technology implementation and classroom integration; mathematics education.

Skills desired: Strong data analysis skills, educational data mining or learning analytics preferred; experience in R and/or Stata; experience with very large datasets; primary data collection; secondary data analysis; supervision; organization; academic writing and presenting.

This position is a 12-month position. The position is for two years with a possibility of a third year, depending on funding and project activities needed. Start date can be between August, 2022 and January, 2023.
