General Summary

The Odessa College program is designed around an open-entry and exit concept. The course of study prepares students with the skill and knowledge required to pass the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations exam for licensing in Texas. Prepare students with the skills needed to work and find employment in the salon.

Specific Position Duties

Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field; Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the college; Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners; Provides students with written expectations, e.g., syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, etc.; Administers tests which are appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam measuring overall grasp of course objectives; By ways and means of instructing students, affirms the worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn; Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, web, or distance, which encourages the free exchange of ideas while defending academic honesty and objectivity; Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly at class meetings, labs, and any other scheduled instructional activities; Delivers material in a clear and understandable manner; Addresses student concerns, i.e., comments, questions, and input, both in class and via posted office hours, timely electronic communication, and other suitable means. Desire and motivation to teach; Possess a high level of expertise in all areas of cosmetology; Supervise and train a 40-person lab; Work with high school students; Possess effective work habits in the interest of safety and infection control; Time management and organized work methods; Loyal to the college and its mission; Contribute and be a member of the schools team; Attend and meet required continuing education hours in innovative teaching methods and diverse learning styles; Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair. Minimum Qualifications

Current Texas Cosmetology Instructor’s License, An earned Associate Degree or similar discipline from a regionally accredited institution, plus related career experience in the field.

Monday - Friday 7:30 am -5:30 pm
