Scope of Position

The Director - Technical Learning is responsible for designing, developing and facilitating technical training with business units with an emphasis on the Asset Optimization (AO) teams. This position partners with senior leaders, key stakeholders, and the learning and development team to ensure training methodologies are enhanced to best equip the Asset Optimization group and other business units to efficiently execute at the field level. This position will lead a team of technical training experts ensuring effective curricula development and on-the-job training execution centered on best practices when interfacing with various renewable energy platforms. This role oversees the planning, designing, building, and implementation of primarily technical learning programs and processes to support our employees and their work.

Responsibilities

Technical Learning Design/Development and Facilitation:

* Provides strategic planning and lead the technical learning team in developing, delivering, and optimizing premier learning experiences.

* Designs and develops technical curriculum by utilizing subject matter experts from throughout the company.

* Implement various learning methods, using different mediums (self-learning, instructor-led learning, supplemental materials, and interactive learning such as VR/AR)

* Collaborates with internal customers and key stakeholders to understand learning needs and identify training projects related to general as well as technical learning.

* Partner and collaborate with multiple team members to design and engineer curriculum to meet service requirements and commitments.

* Proactively seek out ways to simplify processes and look for opportunities to use technology to scale and build efficiencies.

* Create and implement strategy for annual planning, budget alignment, prioritization, training delivery, and third-party resources in an ongoing and ad hoc basis.

* Consults with senior executives and managers to identify where training may be used to increase productivity and skill levels with an emphasis on technical learning.

* Builds business partnerships across divisions and departments and collaborates with individuals to link training services to business goals.

* Partners with company leaders to create an appropriate and effective learning and development culture that supports the organization's ability to achieve successful business outcomes and drive desired behaviors.

Project/Program Management:

* Measures, analyzes, and evaluates ongoing impact of learning strategy and operations.

* Expert knowledge of leadership and management development concepts, models, tools, programs/suppliers and learning methodologies.

* Utilizes different project management and computer applications to collaboratively plan, report against, and execute a wide variety of learning projects, initiatives and programs.

* Prepares project plans, estimates, negotiates & manages costs, identifies risks, resolves issues, and communicates project status.

* Ensures timely delivery of services, adheres to quality and meets high levels of customer satisfaction.

* Leads projects and other initiatives to provide technical and business advice to the business stakeholders.

* Works with learning providers across the organization to strategize the most effective use of the Learning Management System (LMS).

* Uses the LMS and other tools to author and manage learning courses, curricula, communications, attendance, evaluations, and reports and follow up learning connectivity for distinct communities of learners.

* Effectively communicates with various project collaborators, including other technology providers, to ensure that the customer/learner's learning needs and goals are understood and met.

* Assists with change management activities to effectively market and increase adoption of learning programs.

* Actively manages and improves existing learning programs, develop L&D processes and guidelines, and manage relationships with external partners and vendors as needed.

Talent Management:

* Prepares and coaches subject matter experts in developing and delivering effective training presentations.

* Executes the entire performance management cycle for his/her direct reports, including coaching and mentoring.

* Delivers and facilitates leadership development content to Asset Optimization leadership participants.

Other duties as assigned

Supervision of Others

Up to 7 direct reports, indirectly having others report under his/her scope.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in a STEM or related discipline.
  • Five years of work experience in delivering technical training
  • Three years of leadership experience managing a team of five or more employees
  • Knowledge of instructional theory, including training assessments.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) & reporting.

  • 10+ years of work experience in delivering technical training
  • Renewable Energy experience

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge base in organizational capability development, adult and organizational learning theory, instructional design, and technology to the selection and design of appropriate learning solutions.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of adult learning, including knowledge instructional design models, including ADDIE and Agile approaches.
  • Technical aptitude with new technologies and blended learning solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to create clear and persuasive messaging to different audiences.
  • Excellent project management skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize, manage, and complete projects with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage and lead subject matter experts to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Well-developed platform and training skills, and a strong record of success in these areas.
  • Track record of designing and implementing talent management programs and processes.
  • Proficient in change management strategy and execution for large-scale change initiatives.

Working Conditions:

Approximately 60% of time is spent in the office environment, designing, developing courseware and utilizing technology (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. Approximately 40% is spent on delivering in-person, live training and facilitation. Approximately 10% of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors' and/or internal customers' sites in additional to attending various conferences and meetings.

This role's annual base salary range is between $135,000 and $173,250.
