What You’ll Do
- Follow ODL procedures and collaborate with faculty, academic media specialists, information technology professionals, and other learning experts to design online courses and digital learning assets for diverse audiences including students, faculty, and the public.
- Contribute sustained expertise throughout the project lifecycle, from analysis to delivery, ensuring alignment with learning objectives and desired outcomes;
- Anchor design decisions in evidence-based practices to build effective online learning experiences that meet the goals established by faculty, programs, and/or other stakeholders;
- Leverage tools and systems best suited to support effective, sustainable, and engaging learner experiences;
- Assist with evaluating the impact and effectiveness of designed courses or programs through assessments and feedback mechanisms;
- Maintain and improve courseware and resources to keep them current and effective;
- Provides consultation to faculty and subject matter experts on course design, development, and delivery to ensure quality offerings.
- Advocate for and collaborate with university partners in the implementation of accessibility and inclusive design principles, such as creating materials that are accessible to global learners and learners with disabilities;
- Design and deliver workshops and other training related to evidence-based course design and effective pedagogical use of digital tools;
- Maintain professional fluency with current research and best practices (including design methodologies and approaches) and use that expertise to inform design decisions, procedures, and habits of mind;
- As requested, participate in relevant committees and task forces to support university initiatives and enhance digital learning strategies.
This is a one year limited term position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree augmented by appropriate professional experience (one to three years of demonstrated experience working as a learning/instructional designer or on learning initiatives/strategies at the university level);
- Graduate degree (focus on Instructional Design, Educational/Instructional Technology, Curriculum Development, and Learning Design preferred);
- Strong foundational knowledge of learning theories, effective approaches to online/blended teaching and learning, and instructional design models;
- Demonstrated ability to identify and employ effective design approaches to achieve learning outcomes in digital learning environments;
- Experience implementing course designs in learning management systems (LMS) (Canvas, Blackboard, D2L Brightspace, etc.);
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Strong organizational and time-management skills;
- Ability to be a team player.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with or as a project manager in online course development;
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, etc.);
- Experience with Learning Management systems, preferably Canvas and Coursera;
- Experience with HTML, CSS; and
- Experience with video editing software (e.g., Camtasia, Adobe Premiere, etc.).
