Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable.

The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period.   • Demonstrate versatility in instructional methodology and technology and the ability to serve diverse student populations;
  • Participating in program development and expansion of communication courses, including connections with industry and Career and Guided Pathways;

  • Continuous effort to find and close equity gaps and engaging in equitable practices in the classroom and in the campus community;

Qualifications Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication or organizational communication OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in drama/ theater arts, mass communication or English OR the equivalent. Desired Qualifications
  • Experience teaching a variety of Communication Studies courses, with emphasis on oral communication, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, and argumentation at the community college level.
  • Current knowledge of the Communication Studies discipline as well as emerging trends, research, and pedagogy.
  • Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program, and degree level.
  • Competent in new pedagogies, such as accelerated learning, supplemental instruction, online, HyFlex, or hybrid teaching, and other pedagogies directed at improving student success and student equity.
  • Ability to develop curriculum or services that stress innovation and improve student equity.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations in the classroom, specifically underrepresented student populations and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted students both within coursework and the classroom.
  • Experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching in Communication Studies, especially as it relates to the relevancy of communication in students' lives, interests, and communities.
