The STEM Coordinator leads STEM outreach activities with an emphasis on the development of curriculum for summer programs and STEM EXPOs that provide participants with opportunities to explore STEM fields through hands-on activities. This position is responsible for coordinating STEM outreach in northern Virginia with regional partners.
- Facilitates and coordinates STEM integration programming at elementary, secondary, postsecondary, and adult levels.
- Responsible for development and extension of school, higher education, and business partnerships in STEM.
- Develops hands-on curriculum for programs, such as summer STEM camps, Fab Lab activities, career exploration opportunities, expositions, and workshops.
- Coordinates STEM activities and professional development, which are being delivered to faculty, teachers, and students.
- Serves one or more of the NOVA area school divisions and may be called upon to engage in state activities.
- Plan, implement and assess outreach events.
- Recruit program participants and volunteer for NOVA SySTEMic activities and community STEM related events.
- Facilitates, develops, and coordinates NOVA SySTEMic’s outreach activities, including – as appropriate – STEM integration at all educational levels, STEM camps, Fab Lab activities, career exploration opportunities and workshops as well as STEM competitions and professional development to participating faculty, teachers, and students.
- Lead curriculum development for STEM programs, such as summer STEM camps, Fab Lab activities, career exploration opportunities, expositions, and workshops
- Work throughout the Northern Virginia region and work with instructional teams – as appropriate – to create effective STEM learning experiences for students, developing partnerships in STEM, plan, implement and assess outreach events and recruit participants and volunteers for STEM related events.
- Reports to the Director of NOVA SySTEMic and is expected to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse college community.
SPECIAL ASSISNMENTS
**This position is restricted and is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the College.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Ability to follow a budget, track data, and maintain inventory.
- Knowledge of STEM pedagogy and educational programming.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge or expertise in one or more STEM field(s).
- Experience teaching, in a formal or informal professional setting, in a STEM or related field.
- Experience leading engineering educational programs (e.g. robotics, engineering technology, makerspace).
- Experience developing curriculum for STEM educational programs (e.g. classroom, camp, teacher PD, makerspace).
- Experience with planning and coordinating STEM activities.
- Knowledge or expertise in engineering or engineering technology.
- Experience teaching or training students or adults, in a formal or informal professional setting, in a STEM or related field.
- Experience developing curriculum for STEM educational programs (e.g. classroom, camp, teacher PD, makerspace).
- Experience in both secondary and post secondary education.
