The University of Otago is conducting a global search for its next Vice-Chancellor. The University is one of the world’s finest – and Aotearoa New Zealand’s oldest – having built its exceptional profile through a commitment to the betterment of society by research, learning and teaching and by working in partnership with the communities it seeks to serve.

This appointment represents a unique opportunity to lead the University in its next stage of evolution and enhance its international profile by honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and advancing its partnership with Mana Whenua. Key areas of focus will include enhancing excellence in research and education, enriching the student experience, shaping the future of learning, progressing the Pacific Strategic Framework, and advancing the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and public-spirited strategy and action.

The next Vice-Chancellor will be committed to the vision, mission, and values of the University and be a determined, courageous, and inspirational servant leader of high intellectual standing, ideally obtained through experience in an academic environment. They will possess relevant operational and financial management expertise and demonstrate an ability to lead a complex institution by building on existing strengths and innovative transformation.

The next Vice-Chancellor will have strong experience with Indigenous leadership and the strategy and implementation of the same. They will possess a clear vision for the future of Otago, its academic aspirations and ability to create economic, social and cultural value in Aotearoa New Zealand and globally.
