Mentor: Dr. Haydeh Payami, Professor, Department of Neurology, University of Alabama at Birmingham; Faculty Investigator, HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology

The NeuroGenomics Research Consortium is looking for a few good scientists to join us to help build the newly established enterprise with the University of Birmingham in Alabama and The HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. NGRC is a multi-institutional, interdisciplinary group of dedicated researchers who have amassed one of the largest datasets in the world on Parkinson's disease, which is amenable to both genomic analysis and gene-environment interaction studies. Pioneers in genome-wide gene-environment interaction studies, NGRC was extremely productive in the GWAS era, having identified eight new loci for PD, revealing new pathways of disease, as well as pharmacogenomic markers that are being tested in clinical drug trials for treatment of PD. The newly established alliances with UAB and HA, will double the size of NGRC dataset and take it to the very cutting edge of large-scale whole genome sequencing.

Our goal is to prevent PD in people who are prone to it, and to devise effective personalized treatments for people who already have the disease. We are looking for bright energetic Post-docs who can contribute to this mission in the following areas:

1. Analysis of human whole-genome sequence data

2. Analysis of genome-wide and targeted gene expression in humans

3. Study of human gut microbiome

4. Induction and experimentation on hiPS cells for late-onset neurological disorders

5. Observational and interventional clinical trials for prevention and treatment

The positions are in Haydeh Payami's lab (lead investigator of NGRC) which are located at UAB in Birmingham and HudsonAlpha in Huntsville and offer easy opportunities to work with a wide range of awesome scientists.

Interested applicants should send application materials by email to Katherine Belue at The application materials should include a current CV, a list of at least three references, and a brief statement of career goal, research background and interests. UAB is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
