Under the direction of the college president, the special projects Interim Dean of Equity and Inclusion will assist with planning, organizing and implementing an Office of Equity and Inclusion at American River College, which includes primary responsibility for the development, coordination, and delivery of in-service trainings and programming pertaining to the effective delivery of instruction and services and faculty hiring practices in compliance with Title V, Title IX and California Education Code.
The project objective is to develop, staff, and operationalize an Office of Equity and Inclusion at American River College to foster and support safe, inclusive, and equitable working and learning conditions for all students, faculty and staff. The Interim Dean of Equity and Inclusion will develop and deliver a variety of in-service trainings, workshops, and other equity related and professional development programming, and will coordinate and chair college faculty selection processes.
This position will also lead, communicate information about, implement, and support campus efforts related to Title V and Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Student Rights and Responsibilities, Confidential Reporting, CAST, and Bias Incidents. Serving as the Campus Equity Officer, the Interim Dean of Equity and Inclusion will collaborate broadly with an array of campus constituents across Instruction, Student Services and Administration, the union, LRPD, District Office and appropriate community stakeholders to establish consistent, responsive, and effective business practices and protocols regarding applicable campus, district, state. and federal policies, regulations and laws.
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Coordinating and chairing faculty selection processes.
● Developing and implementing faculty in-service training.
● Developing and delivering training to hiring committee members, equity reps and chairs.
● Administering policies and procedures pertaining to Title V and Title IX, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
● Coordinating and conducting Title V and Title IX trainings, as well as ADA interactive meetings.
● Creating and implementing a campus Bias Reporting process.
● Producing compliance related and investigatory documents, reports, and databases of high quality.
● Identifying and successfully addressing gaps in existing procedural and business processes at the campus and district levels.
● Creating collateral materials for employees and students outlining campus grievance and bias reporting processes and step by step procedures.
● Making and tracking recommendations for equity rep appointments to all campus hiring committees.
● Reviewing job announcements, screening criteria and interview questions for all campus hiring committees.
● Serving as the tertiary point of intervention for equity concerns on all campus hiring committees, and as the primary point of intervention for all other equity related concerns.
● Developing and updating relevant content for an Office of Equity and Inclusion presence on the campus website.
● Creating and delivering professional development materials, programming, and trainings to faculty, staff, and students related to equity, inclusion, social justice, diversity, pluralism and cultural competency.
● Serving as an administrative resource to the Equity Action Institute.
● Coordinating the administration and analysis of campus equity climate surveys and/or audits.
● Serving as an administrative resource to campus faculty, administrative, and classified affinity groups.
● Coordinating local placements of Faculty Diversity Internship appointees on campus.
● Serving as appointed on a variety of campus and district councils, committees, and project teams.
● Serving as the administrative liaison for campus learning communities affiliated with historically marginalized or underserved populations (Umoja Sakhu, Puente, and PRISE).
● Overseeing a variety of general fund and categorical budgets and grants.
● Coordinating and chairing meetings, interviews, hiring committees, trainings and presentations.
● Coordinating recurring updates to the campus Equity Plan.
● Providing administrative oversite and evaluation of office staff.
● Performing other duties as assigned.
The administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus work and/or hours.
Work Year12 month
1. Have a master’s degree* from an accredited institution completed by November 14, 2019
2. Have one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.
3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
