Jeffrey McCubbin named human sciences dean at Colorado State

Colorado State University
April 4, 2011
Colorado State University has named Jeffrey A. McCubbin, Oregon State University executive associate dean and distinguished professor, as dean of the College of Applied Human Sciences. McCubbin will begin his new position on July 1.

"Dr. McCubbin is an experienced leader, an accomplished scholar and a skilled administrator, and we are delighted that he is joining our College of Applied Human Sciences to serve as its next dean. I am looking forward to working with him and with the college leadership, and its faculty and staff, to bring the college’s programs to the next level,” said Rick Miranda, provost at Colorado State University.

McCubbin currently serves as executive associate dean of research and graduate studies in the College of Health and Human Sciences and Distinguished Professor of Exercise Science at Oregon State University.

McCubbin has been at Oregon State since 1988 where he directs an internationally recognized graduate program in movement studies in disability, an area of study designed to develop professionals who respond to motor and physical fitness needs of people with disabilities. The program is in Oregon State’s Department of Nutrition and Exercise Sciences. His research has received more than $7 million in funding from various sources including the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. His research, publication record, teaching and service led him to be named an OSU Distinguished Professor in 2007.

Since 2000, McCubbin has served as professor and associate dean, helping to increase external funding to the college more than threefold. His lengthy administrative experience includes a two-year stint as interim dean.

McCubbin succeeds April Mason, who left Colorado State in January 2010 to become provost and senior vice president at Kansas State University. Nancy Hartley, former dean of the College of Applied Human Sciences, came out of retirement to serve as interim dean.

McCubbin will oversee Colorado State's College of Applied Human Sciences, which consists of six departments and two schools: Construction Management, Design and Merchandising, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Health and Exercise Science, Human Development and Family Studies, Occupational Therapy, School of Education and School of Social Work. The college also includes the interdisciplinary major of family and consumer sciences.
