Michael Reeser to lead Texas State Technical College System

Texas State Technical College System
December 13, 2010
The TSTC Board of Regents appointed Michael L. Reeser as Chancellor of the Texas State Technical College System. Reeser will begin his tenure as the ninth CEO of the TSTC System immediately.

“Mike has a history of innovative student-focused leadership,” said TSTC Board Chair Rolf Haberecht, Ph.D. “His passion and boldness will serve the entire system well as TSTC becomes the leader in building the economic vibrancy of Texas by striving to develop the technical competence of all Texans,” added Dr. Haberecht.

Reeser has served as president of TSTC West Texas since 2004. Prior to that time, he managed the operational and instructional activities of the college as vice president and dean of instruction. For three consecutive years, TSTC West Texas has ranked in the Top 30 Best Two-Year Colleges by Washington Monthly, most recently ranking Number 2 in Texas. Reeser presided over an intentional cultural transformation in which the nature of the college changed to focus on innovation, productivity and results. He and his team have reshaped the array of programs and services at TSTC West Texas to enhance relevance and regional fit, and nurtured and built relationships resulting in millions of dollars in donations to TSTC, including in-kind gifts of campus real estate in Abilene, Breckenridge and Brownwood. Also, under his direction, TSTC West Texas has maintained an unprecedented array of partnerships with regional community colleges that transformed TSTC into an indispensible component of higher education and economic development in the region. Most recently, partnership and student focus resulted in the Abilene STEM New Tech High School coming to the TSTC campus in Abilene.

Reeser also managed and was accountable for all business and operational areas of the four-college system while serving as chief financial officer of the TSTC System from 1999 to 2001. Prior to joining TSTC, Reeser was the president of Compass Bank in Waco, and also served for 15 years in various executive and management roles in banking in Houston.

Throughout his career, Reeser has been active in various community organizations. He currently serves on the board of The Texas and Oklahoma Plains Girl Scout Council, and the executive committee and the board of directors of The Texas Midwest Community Network. He is chairman of the Texas Higher Education Regional Council, Region 2, past president and director of the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce, past director of the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Waco Chamber of Commerce Workforce Development Regulatory Subcommittee, and former director on the Midway ISD Community Advisory Board. Additionally, Reeser served as a director of the Adopt-a-School advisory board, was chairman of the Multiple Sclerosis Waco Walk-a-thon, and served as president of The Metropolitan Association, a not-for-profit organization in Houston. He is a Rotarian, has served as member of the Vestry, and as chairman of the executive/finance committee of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.
