Virginia International University is seeking a Vice President of Academic Affairs to handle leadership responsibilities for planning, implementing, and coordinating the educational programs of the University.

Specific Responsibilities:

* Coordinate periodic academic program review and work with Deans in the review, study, and development of curriculum nd in the improvement of instruction

* Serve as advisor to the President and Executive Team in matters related to curriculum and instruction, faculty selection, assignment, development, and retention

* Serve as a leader in long-term planning of educational programs, assuring quality of instruction, selection and development of a distinguished faculty, and furthering the strategic plan, the educational master plan, and the goals and objectives of VIU

* Provide strong, dynamic academic and administrative leaderships; foster an academic environment which encourages scholarship, teaching, and learning excellence

* Advocate and promote quality instruction, student success, integrated planning, and the expansion of Student Learning Outcomes to meet educational needs of students in a diverse environment

* Provide oversight of assessment of Student Learning Outcomes and college-wide accreditation

* Work effectively with community groups, educational entities, business, industry, and government and legislative bodies, to develop partnerships which result in improved service to students and to the community

* Supervise the development of community education, contract education, learning resource center/library services, athletics, and distance learning

* Review grant opportunities and support applications for new grants; oversee implementation of grants within the Academic Affairs area

* Perform other duties as assigned by the President

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

* Understanding of the mission and values of Virginia International University (VIU) and the ability to effectively support and communicate them to internal and external audiences

* Knowledge of higher education standards and trends

* Knowledge of curriculum design and its application to sound academic management

* Demonstrated administrative leadership skills including visionary leadership, strategic thinking, an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, and a commitment to multidisciplinary research and education

* Ability to formulate and articulate sound policies as well as ensure implementation and execution of policies university-wide

* Ability to develop and administer an academic budget and to establish and monitor fiscal accountability within the areas of responsibility

* Ability to manage and motivate a variety of teams

* Ability to communicate effectively, in both writing and speech, with a highly diverse international community

* Sound judgment and ability to make good decisions

* Strong organizational and management skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines

* Excellent computer skills, particularly in MS Office Suite products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

* Excellent oral and written English communication skills; including excellent public speaking skills

* Ability to work with a highly diverse staff, faculty, and student body

* Ability to excel in a demanding, outcome-oriented, and dynamic work environment

* Ability to effectively carry out projects through to completion with minimal supervision

Education:

* Doctorate from an accredited college or university

Experience: 

* A minimum of 2-5 years of higher education administration experience or significant experience at the level of Dean, including experience in the development and administration of curriculum, budget, personnel, strategic planning, and the use of technology in higher education

* Demonstrated record of teaching excellence and service

* Experience overseeing Academic Affairs preferred
