Johnson’s Career Management Center prepares MBA students from both the residential and executive programs for a competitive job market with advising, workshops, networking, and access to appropriate tools/resources.


This Position:


Reporting directly to the Director of the Career Management Center for Johnson, this role will serve as our chief advisor to MBA students pursuing careers in high tech. This individual will work closely with key faculty and alumni to conceptualize and implement effective resources and innovative programming for students including lectures, training programs, special events, small-group meetings and individual advising sessions to aid in their job search.


Additionally, the Career Advisor will work directly with faculty, the Johnson High Tech Club, and alumni to provide insight on careers and to facilitate relevant contacts for our MBA students. This role will be chiefly responsible in establishing, cultivating, and managing connections with key companies and organizations that employ MBAs in a wide range of career opportunities in the high tech industry which may include product management, product marketing, operations, business development, account management, data analytics, finance, human resources, leadership rotation programs, and other strategy roles.


Further, the Career Advisor will monitor the employment status of our high tech students, produce periodic updates to senior staff in the Career Management Center about the employment climate, and develop new ways to boost employment numbers and increase student engagement.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience or equivalent required.

  • 3+ years of experience in, or familiarity with, the high tech industry.

  • Must be familiar with graduate business education, business communication, and corporate etiquette.

  • Must have the maturity and judgment to work with students who have 5-10 years of business experience.

  • Strong desire to work with students, faculty and employers in a college environment.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills required.

  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • An MBA degree or equivalent.

  • Successful track record of driving results.

  • Experience in coaching and mentoring.

  • Experience in bringing on new accounts and customers.


Remote Work Eligibility:


Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the University’s need to limit the number of on-campus employees, the successful applicant will be asked to perform this role remotely at a location of their choice in the United States. This position is eligible for ongoing remote-work status, even once the Ithaca campus permits more employees to work on campus. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
