Dark Matter Research Lecturer

• Full time Continuing position, located on the Camperdown Campus at the School of Physics
• Opportunity to contribute to teaching and research focused on dark matter direct detection
• Base Salary Level B $113,184 p.a. - $134,403 p.a. + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a Dark Matter Research Lecturer who are an experimentalist in Dark Matter field. The successful applicant will be working in the Astroparticle group (led by Professor Celine Boehm, Head of School) and expected to perform independent teaching and research on dark matter direct detection, astroparticle physics. The University of Sydney is a node of the awarded Australian Centre of Excellence for Dark matter and as such the applicant will benefit from the centre facilities and resources.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• develop and maintain a very high-quality research profile in the field of experimental dark matter/Astroparticle physics
• apply for competitive grants and establish a range of collaborations and partnerships with other colleagues, experts, universities, and industry in Australia and abroad
• supervise PhD students and postdoctoral fellows
• provide leadership in teaching, teaching innovation or curriculum development and/or research training and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate level
• coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University's expectations and standards for education.

About you

• a PhD (or near completion) in Astroparticle Physics expert in dark matter direct detection (Xenon based experiments and halo scope)
• leadership in Astroparticle Physics experiments research & development
• experience of multi-disciplinary science projects, including of potential relevance for Astronomy and/or space science
• strong interest in establishing links with quantum physics or nanotechnologies
• experience or at least strong interest to engage with Industry.
