Position Description:
Staff Scientist in the Molecular Immunology Section (MIS), Laboratory of
Immunology (LI), Bethesda, Maryland. The MIS conducts basic and translational research that will result in better understanding and treatment of sight-threatening ocular inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases. Staff Scientist will be responsible for designing and conducting research in three major areas pertaining to understanding of molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate host immunity in the eye and central nervous system (CNS). Emphasis is on: (i) mechanisms that regulate lymphocyte development; (ii) characterizing lymphocyte subsets that mediate or suppress CNS autoimmune diseases; (iii) Developing Biologics and cell-based therapies for CNS inflammatory diseases, such as Uveitis and Multiple Sclerosis. The incumbent will have a major role in assisting the Section Chief in project management, training Post-doctoral and Post-baccalaureate Fellows, college/high school students and preparing data for publication. Good written and oral (English) communication skills are required.
Qualifications:
The successful individual must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. with at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience. The individual should also have expertise in multi-dimensional flow cytometry, especially in the analysis of primary human and mouse immune cells. Proficiency in next generation sequencing techniques such as RNA-Seq, ATAC-Seq, ChIP-Seq and Chromosome conformation capture (3-C, Hi-C) is highly desirable.
