Title Assistant Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Reports to: Chief Anti-Racism and Equity Officer
Location: 305 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10001
Hours: 35 hours/week; Exempt
Salary: $96,390-$101,390
Overarching Role:
Assist with Good Shepherd Services mission to become an anti-racist and multicultural organization.
Job Responsibilities
Consultation, Coaching and Project Management:
- Support the development of DEI ambassadors, including their ability to effectively engage and educate others.
- Attend program sites monthly; work closely with program staff to ensure they have an anti-racist lens embedded into their work. Serve as a coach and facilitator in a consultative manner to help them progress towards becoming programs that have a fully embedded anti-racist and equity lens.
- Lead the development of participant-facing anti-racism and equity programming and workshops.
- Provide support and council to affinity groups; coordinate quarterly meetings with affinity groups to ensure they are in alignment with org mission and that they are not duplicating efforts but rather supporting one another.
- Provide LEAD with project management support to ensure their successful completion of goals. Attend LEAD meetings regularly, meet with LEAD Co-Chair monthly, participate in LEAD subcommittee meetings.
- Serve as member of the Trauma Informed Practice Steering Committee to provide an ARE lens.
- Coordinate the logistics of the Anti-Racism and Equity Institute for internal and external participants.
- Participate in the NYS Equitable Economies Coalition (NYSEEC) meetings and provide resource management support with their projects.
- Provide coaching and consultation to individuals and groups regarding cross-cultural interactions and conflicts.
- Supports with the coordination and execution of theme month informational materials, celebrations, and events.
- Support AED of Anti-Racism with priority anti-racism and DEI projects, when needed.
Facilitation:
- Facilitate JEDI workshops and content including the mandatory Intro to Equity training, Supervisory Essentials with a DEI lens, Collaborative Decision-Making with a DEI Lens and more.
- Facilitate courageous conversations related to social and racial justice topics.
- Designs, coordinates and facilitates anti-racism, equity and inclusion workshops.
Resource Development:
- Develops and regularly updates guides and resources for identity-based affinity groups.
- Perform JEDI research regularly to ensure alignment to best practices, to support with ARE communications and workshop and other pertinent ARE and Diversity and Inclusion (DI) content.
- Develop, collect, and disseminate resources and activities to support the development of inclusive mindsets, behaviors, and practices across the organization.
Data Collection and Management:
- Regularly collect data to ensure deliverables and goals alignment and achievement.
- Utilize participant-centered data-informed strategies to move the work forward.
Communication:
- Develops flyers and advertisements, and assists AREO with various forms of publicity
- Creates and disseminates an ARE e-newsletter and regular ARE agency updates.
You Have/Are:
- Self-starter; self-driven and motivated by the work/mission
- Experienced facilitator of racial and social justice content to participants and staff.
- Innovative, courageous and willing to challenge the status quo and white supremacy norms.
- Courage to surface anti-racist and anti-oppressive stances.
- Experience in anti-oppressive participatory engagement strategies.
- Have an intersectional lens to JEDI work.
- A bridge builder who can work with people from various and diverse backgrounds.
- Conflict resolution experience rooted in an anti-racist lens.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of multiple anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks.
- Actively engaged in ongoing learning in the field.
- Actively engaged with networks that engage in anti-racism work, thought, and action.
- Confidence to present internally and externally before varied audiences and in delivering presentations.
Qualifications:
- 5 – 10 years of experience in JEDI facilitation.
- Experience creating and executing anti-racism work in organizations; this includes relevant paid and unpaid/volunteer/community work.
- Consistent ongoing learning in the field of anti-racism work, both taking and delivering anti-racism trainings.
- Candidates with BA/BS and advanced degree encouraged to apply in relevant fields including sociology, organizational development, American Studies, Cultural Studies, conflict resolution.
- Demonstrates a value to cultural humility - a commitment to learning about themselves, their identities and cultural experiences, as well as those of their staff, the participants and the communities they partner with.
- Effectively and humanely communicates with all levels of staff, internal and external stakeholders about policies, challenges, programmatic concerns and needs
