Job Title: Assistant Athletic Coach Part Time Pool Opening Date/Time: Mon. 07/28/14 12:00 AM Pacific Time Closing Date/Time: Tue. 06/30/15 12:00 AM Pacific Time Salary: Depends on Qualifications Job Type: Faculty - Part Time Location: Main Campus, Coos Bay, Oregon Department: Athletics Print Job Information | Apply Primary Purpose Benefits Supplemental Questions (Applications will be reviewed and considered until June 30, 2015) We are seeking to establish a pool of qualified applicants for Part Time position in various sports for temporary assignments. To recruit, coach and assist the head coach in management of an athletic program. Description of Duties and tasks: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assist the Head Coach while providing guidance to players’ academic and athletic experience. Recruit and retain a full roster of student-athletes for an athletic program at Southwestern. To coach/coordinate/assist in the supervision of an Athletic Program. Adhere to established Southwestern Athletic Department Coaches Handbook. Demonstrate continued professional growth by staying current in and expanding knowledge of coaching techniques through a plan of professional development. Attend scheduled athletic contests, attend professional conferences and required institutional meetings, assist with game management as necessary and other duties as assigned. Models and ensures diversity and cultural competency (respect, inclusiveness, reflecting, valuing, and welcoming cultural differences) in all position responsibilities regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, social class, sexual orientation, ability, nationality, age, language, origin, or employment status. MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS Attend conferences, clinics and professional meetings. Attend student graduation ceremony at the end of the academic year. Follow safety procedures and maintain work area a clean and orderly manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities to demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job for which they are hired, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. Ability to motivate and inspire students. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter. Ability to effectively communicate orally with groups and/or individual, and deal with peers, the public and the community in a positive, empathetic and professional manner. Ability to review, understand, apply and share concepts presented in training programs, conferences and/or professional literature. Ability and willingness to manage a flexible work schedule with self-discipline, including travel, various hours and possible weekends/evenings, as well as work days at other college locations. Ability to write and communicate at a professional level utilizing a high level of computer skills sufficient to use software such as word processing, spreadsheets and data bases to produce correspondence, documents and reports as required by the position. Ability to consistently convey a pleasant and helpful attitude by using excellent interpersonal and communication skills to control sometimes stressful and emotional situations. Requires sufficient communication and human relations skills to resolve complaints/issues, defuse anger, and gain cooperation. Knowledge and ability to coach/manage/retain a full-roster for a specific athletic program. QUALIFICATION STANDARDS REQUIRED: Two (2) years of successful instruction/coaching in high school or college athletics OR four (4) years of participation at college athletic level Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification/CPR OR ability to obtain upon offer of employment Valid unrestricted Oregon State driver’s license Clean driving record PREFERRED: Preference given to applicants with demonstrated success in coaching adult student-athletes.
