Remarks: Being hired into the regular part-time instructor pool is not a guarantee of employment. Classes are assigned on an as-needed basis. The number of classes depends on student enrollment. Position Type: Faculty Duties and Responsibilities: General Responsibilities: An instructor is responsible for providing high quality instruction so that each student may meet course outcomes. Instructional Duties: - Effectively prepare, teach, grade, and assess student learning in courses assigned. - Advance the role and goals of Central New Mexico Community College. - Create and model a quality learning environment to support a diverse student population including students with disabilities or special learning needs. - Structure classes and curriculum to correspond with program and course outcomes. - Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate. - Convene classes as scheduled. - Respond to student inquiries within 48 hours (business days, M-F). - Provide assistance to students outside the classroom through posted office hours. - Incorporate, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments. - Maintain student records (e.g., grades, attendance) and provide documentation for incompletes within established College timelines. - Complete assigned duties, reports and other required documentation on time. - Attend in-service sessions, college/school/department meetings, graduation and convocation as required. - Utilize a variety of technology-based programs to access and input information related to student records and college/school/department processes (e.g., banner, MyCNM, grade books, etc.). - Provide for the security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials and maintain safe working conditions. - Abide by all college policies and regulations. - Assist students with registration, advising, and graduation processes. - Participate in the development and review of course and program outcomes. - Update and revise curriculum to maintain currency. - Instructors may be assigned other instructional responsibilities as determined by the Dean and/or Associate Dean. Professional Development: - Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintain current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation. - Participate in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies. - Participate in other appropriate development activities as may be determined by the Dean and/or the Associate Dean. To ensure compliance with federal and college requirements, some mandatory training must be completed for this position. Minimum Requirements: - A Master's degree in French (must be conferred before beginning instruction) from an accredited institution; closely related degrees may be considered in combination with a minimum of two semesters of post-secondary instructional experience in lower division French. - Demonstrated ability to relate to and instruct a non-traditional, diverse student population. - Minimum of two semesters of recent college instructional experience in lower division French required, or documented experience teaching French to adult populations, or documented successful completion of CNM's Tools for Teaching course. Preferences: - Demonstrated working knowledge of current issues, trends, and developments in French instruction. - Demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of teaching methods including lecture, collaborative leaning and individualized instruction. - Demonstrated ability to relate and explain complex subject matter to first- and second-year college students. - Experience teaching in hybrid or online delivery modes. Work Schedule:: Assignment based on instructional needs of the college. Days and evening classes may be assigned.
