JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism is seeking a Human Research Technologist Level 3 to assist in the conduct of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded clinical trial to determine the effects of mindfulness or stress management education on blood glucose control in adults with diabetes. This work will take place under the supervision of Principal Investigator Nazia Raja-Khan, M.D., M.S. within the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. Dr. Raja-Khan’s research is focused on improving the health and well-being of all people with diabetes.

The successful candidate will have experience coordinating clinical trials and directly engaging with trial participants. In addition to experience, the candidate will also have the following traits: detail-oriented, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the desire and capacity to work with both technology and people.

Responsibilities include:

Recruit participants for the clinical trial, explain the purpose and procedures of the trial, obtain informed consent, and complete screening of participants. Maintain contact with participants on an ongoing basis to optimize retention. Conduct study visits and collect data from participants. Maintain participant database. Monitor safety and confidentiality of project and participants. Collect adverse events. Maintain all laboratory supplies and equipment in good working order. Troubleshoot for technical problems and maintain protocol integrity.  Complete and submit Institutional Review Board (IRB) paperwork and modifications. Develop and maintain research materials, including visit forms, spreadsheets and other project-related documents. Collaborate with research study staff to oversee operations of the research study and implementation of study protocols. Develop methods to ensure program compliance with University policies and regulatory requirements for human subjects research. Other functions as assigned by Dr. Raja-Khan.

This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with clinical research experience.

Applicants with flexibility in work hours preferred e.g. some evening hours may be needed for research participant recruitment.

This is a limited-term appointment funded one year from date of hire with a significant possibility of continuing funding.

The following clearances must be successfully completed for this position: 

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check 
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History- 
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
