What You Will Do
A position is available (starting immediately) for a highly talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in colloidal nanomaterial synthesis, surface modification, coupling chemistry and characterization. A key aim of the research will be to discover, develop and implement light-emitting nanomaterials as robust single-photon sources. As such, the successful candidate will show promise for designing optical nanomaterials—heterostructure, morphology, surface chemistry—for targeted properties, i.e., be adept at understanding the interplay between chemistry, structure and function. They should be able to adapt, optimize or devise new chemical synthesis protocol for targeted nanomaterials. The selected postdoc will have the opportunity to engage with a dynamic, multidisciplinary experimental and theoretical research team that bridges fundamental science with application and results-oriented device development and integration. The postdoc will have available to them standard air-sensitive handling equipment, as well as a unique automated reactor system, microfluidic system, and microwave reactor. For assembly and integration of nanomaterials, the postdoc will have thin-film preparation tools, a dip-pen nanolithography system, and microgravity simulator for their use. They would be able to access a suite of fabrication tools and expertise, as well as x-ray and neutron scattering, electron microscopy and single-nanostructure optical spectroscopy/imaging, via the strongly collaborative environment in which they will work, including other postdoctoral researchers, research technologists and scientific staff.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Strong nanocrystal synthesis experience
Chemical synthesis skills using air-sensitive handling techniques
Experience with a range of optical and structural characterization techniques
Strong chemical intuition and creativity
Strong background in chemical synthesis method development
A strong publication record
Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team
Ability to work productively on multiple projects
Education/Experience: Ph.D. in inorganic, organic or materials chemistry or related field completed within the last 5 years or soon to be completed.
Particular expertise in semiconductor quantum dots
Nanocrystal coupling chemistry
Nanocrystal surface modification
Advanced optical and structural characterization techniques
Planning and execution of complex, multistep reactions
Excellent communication and writing skills
