The successful candidate will perform materials synthesis and characterization experiments supporting the development of next-generation composite materials for national security applications. The development process will encompass additive manufacturing (material formulations/characterizations and processing/building), self-assembly, predictive modeling, and combinations therein. Of particular interest is the successful fabrication and scale-up of “multi-functional” materials that possess specific mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties that are engineered to exhibit enhanced behaviors in these categories simultaneously . This position will be supported jointly by the Mechanical and Thermal Engineering Group (E-1) and the Engineered Materials Group (MST-7).

Exceptional candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Darleane Christian Hoffman, Richard P. Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Fellowships.
