Job Description

This position provides direction and development of the Blue Devils Softball program.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning, budgeting, organizing, recruiting, fund-raising, student retention, NJCAA competition and promotional visibility of the organization.

Riverland is a Division III member of the NJCAA and a member of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference. Program reviews will occur at the close of each season.

Overview
  • Recruit quality student athletes to maintain a fully enrolled and competitive NJCAA Softball program
  • Direct all phases of the program including recruitment, onboarding, pre-season, in-season, and post-season activities
  • In partnership with the Athletic Director, develop, submit and monitor budget for the season
  • Organize, schedule, coach and supervise all practices and games/matches/tournaments
  • Schedule travel and supervise team travel
  • Create atmosphere that promotes good citizenship and sportsmanship
  • Keep up in all current trends and styles by attending clinics, MCAC Coaches meetings related to assigned sport, department and institutional trainings, as well as be able to relate information to student athletes
  • Show technique and offer drills to practice that technique and evaluate its effectiveness
  • Maintain player bios, statistics, and program historic records in collaboration with the Assistant Athletic Director
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Directing Team to inventory, maintain, order, and be accountable for all program equipment, uniforms, and supplies
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and the Wellness Center Coordinator to maintain the cleanliness of practice rooms, locker rooms, and other facilities or files used by the program athletes
  • Work with Communications and the Assistant Athletic Director to promote the season to local and national media through press releases, social media, and other methods of public relations
  • Offer support for student athlete academic achievements and progress and facilitate ongoing assessment of the Softball program to ensure a well-rounded student-athlete experience at Riverland
  • Participate in community fund-raising efforts and public relations
  • Assist in hiring and evaluation of assistant coaches
  • Supervise work study students

This is a part-time (seven) 7 credit assignment.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • 3 years of experience in coaching softball;
  • Knowledge of and adherence to NJCAA rules and regulations;
  • Knowledge of current styles and techniques and ability to demonstrate these techniques to others;
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit highly skilled student athletes from the area;
  • Experience in fund-raising and/or public relations;
  • Evidence of a valid driver’s license, or ability to acquire a legal driver’s license or qualify for a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience coaching at the collegiate level;
  • Familiarity with recruiting and scouting software;
  • Familiarity with strength and conditioning philosophy and techniques;
  • College and/or professional playing experience;
  • Ability to work with a diverse student body including multilingual or multicultural and underserved populations.
