Department Summary & Job Purpose:

A postdoctoral position is available to study transport in disordered materials in the lab of Katherine Aidala. The lab focuses on electrical scanning probe techniques to complement traditional transport measurements to better understand the movement of charges in organic semiconductors and 2D materials. The position is a one-year grant funded appointment.

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Carry out research investigating fundamental material and device properties. The lab focuses on electrical scanning probe techniques to complement traditional transport measurements to better understand the movement of charges in organic semiconductors. Existing collaborations extend these electrical scanning probe techniques to MoS2 and other 2D materials.
  • Fabricate samples, design experiments, run simulations, and analyze results. 
  • Mentor undergraduate researchers in the lab.
  • Communicate results and updates clearly. 

Qualifications: Ph.D. in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline; ability to work both independently and collaboratively; effective communicator

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience with transport measurements, device fabrication and characterization and/or scanning probe microscopy

 

Physical Demands: Employee works in an experimental laboratory environment that requires sufficient physical ability to navigate the tools and tasks required, including visual acuity, physical dexterity to manipulate small objects and move modest sized objects, and ability to communicate effectively for safety and teaching purposes.

Working Conditions: Employee works in laboratory environments with a wide range of hazardous materials.
