What we want

The Sport Science GANT is responsible for providing key support and research for one of the following Performance & Wellness units; Sports Medicine, Performance Nutrition, Sports Performance, Counseling and Sport Psychology. They will also assist and/or lead sport science support for 1-3 assigned Texas A&M Athletics teams. Academic work is a required part of this role and research should focus on topics that complement work done within the Athletics Department. The selected candidate will subscribe to and support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability (IDEA) as stated above. Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in sport science, physiology, nutrition, sports medicine, sport psychology, or related field
  • One year of voluntary experience in a role supporting athletes at the intercollegiate or professional level

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in the use of diagnostic tools / forms of assessment within specific field of expertise
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate well with coaches, student athletes, and other support staff
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • Travel required. Nights, weekends, and holidays as required to complete assigned duties

Preferred Experience:

  • Two years of paid experience in a role supporting athletes at the intercollegiate or professional level

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Presented and/or published research in the performance & wellness field
  • Experience teaching diagnostic tools / forms of assessment to other professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large monitoring database
  • Ability to perform advanced statistical analysis techniques & visualizations

Responsibilities:

  • P&W Unit Support - Support for assigned Performance & Wellness Unit; perform background research within area of expertise, assist with creation of protocols, data collection and analysis, communicate interpretation and application with unit staff.
  • Sport Science Support - Assist and/or lead general sport science support for assigned Texas A&M Athletics sport programs; collect and analyze monitoring data, maintain our athlete management system, provide athlete education content, contribute to Performance Group meetings and projects.
  • Research - Provide in depth research and analysis into a specific area of study.
  • Compliance - Compliance is a shared responsibility. Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations for all staff members and student workers supervised. Maintains awareness of and supports the diversity and inclusion initiatives of the Athletics Department. Performs other duties as assigned.
