The 3D+4D Seismology group, based in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), invites applicants for a Postdoctoral researcher position, which will be jointly funded and mentored by Prof. David Lumley and Prof. Hejun Zhu. Our research group works on wave-theoretic Seismic Modeling, Imaging and Inversion at a wide variety of spatial and temporal scales, ranging from natural resource reservoirs to continental tectonics and earthquakes. The postdoctoral researcher will work on projects related to time-lapse seismic imaging and inversion problems, using active source, passive, or ambient noise seismic data, to enable us to better understand a variety of time-varying physical processes within the Earth’s crust. Research topics of interest include, but are not limited to, using time-lapse seismic data to study earthquake rupture processes, monitor carbon capture and storage, and near-surface critical zone issues such as climate change, ground water flow and quality, and other aspects of interest.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Seismology or a related field by the time of hire. The successful applicant should have experience with seismic modeling and imaging techniques (such as full waveform inversion) or ambient noise data analysis, and high performance computing (HPC). The postdoc will be part of an active research group in seismology and will be involved in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The position is initially for two years, and is renewable depending upon performance.

Applicants should submit a CV listing their publications along with a statement of research interests and a cover letter which includes contact information for three professional references, to https://jobs.utdallas.edu/postings/15771. Review of applications will start immediately, and this position will remain open until filled. Please contact Prof. David Lumley (David.Lumley@utdallas.edu ) or Prof. Hejun Zhu (Hejun.Zhu@utdallas.edu ) for more information about this position.
