A postdoctoral research position is available for a remote sensing scientist to develop new approaches that integrate multi-sensor satellite remote sensing with field-based information to generate new and improved coral reef monitoring products. This postdoctoral position is offered in the Asner Lab of the ASU Center for Global Discovery and Conservation Science (GDCS). GDCS is the lead organization for the Allen Coral Atlas, a partnership between collaborating organizations focused on global-scale mapping, monitoring and conservation of coral reefs.

We seek a researcher who can combine multiple data sources, such as field-based data and multi-sensor remote sensing data of reef ecosystems, to improve and expand existing workflows that detect and report coral reef bleaching at regional to global scales. This position requires strong remote sensing, computer programming, and spatial analysis skills. The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with Allen Coral Atlas scientists, engineers, and outreach personnel, both within GDCS and with partnering organizations including Coral Reef Alliance and National Geographic Society.

The position can be based either at the GDCS Facility in Hilo, Hawaii or the GDCS laboratories on the main ASU campus in Tempe, AZ. Responsibilities include model development and analysis, workflow application, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and interfacing with Coral Atlas outreach personnel and the global reef community.

The position will be funded for an initial year and may be extended for additional years. A Ph.D. in a discipline such as ocean remote sensing or equivalent is required; strong quantitative, modeling, and coding skills, as well as demonstrated experience are highly desirable. Candidates should send a cover letter, statement of research interests that includes your accomplishments and how this position will help you achieve your career objectives, current curriculum vitae, and the names of two references (please include email addresses and phone numbers). Applications should be sent to Andrea.Cottrell@asu.edu
