Title: Educational Training Specialist – H1-B One Workforce Grant
Hours: 40 hours/52 weeks (Position begins 4/19/2021, Grant funded through 12/31/2024)
Compensation: Meet & Confer - Grade 11, $18.66 per hour
Reports to: Executive Director, Workforce Training & Tassell MTEC
* flexible work schedule when necessary, which may include evenings or weekends

This position serves as a vital link for program participants to connect to education and training activities that will lead to sustainable employment focused in the manufacturing sector. This position will interact with community agencies and employers to ensure participants understand the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for their career choices.

- Provide educational information and opportunities to H1-B One Workforce Grant participants, manufacturing,workforce training students and grant participants.
- Provide formal learning opportunities, which includes but is not limited to:
o The development of a customized adult learning plan for each participant
o A determination of participant’s career guidance and job readiness suitability for the type of trainingneeded
o Conduct intake and assessments to determine participant’s referral to programs.
o Participate in information sessions and recruiting activities for the H1-B One Workforce Project
- Assist participants with enrollment in GRCC vocational/occupational or training/education programs
- Facilitate group work in workshop and small group formats.
- Provide career coach and case management services, including:
o Assist with individual assessments as defined by grant team.
o Collaborate with partners to help identify and address learning barriers.
o Collaborate with partners to bring career coaching services to the community and partner organizations.
o Providing counseling/advocacy
o Providing exit assessments for the purpose of referral to appropriate agencies or departments
o Administering participant support services system
o Document and maintain individual participant and grant files.
o Develop employment leads/placements with grant partners
o Re-engaging clients who may be approaching noncompliance status
o Maintaining participant reporting/reconciliation
o Monitoring overall participant performance in education and training programs
o Monitoring/coordinating follow-up with education and training retention participants on at least amonthly basis
o Coordinate and monitor participate attendance with instructors and data entry staff
- Attend meetings, both grant and partner meetings regularly
- Coordinate the retrieval of information from data reporting systems for faculty, staff and students.
- Coordinate activities with external educational training specialists/coaches at grant partner organizations.
- Administer system designed to track grant participants who have been referred from other agencies by processing new referrals, providing monitoring and follow-up activities, and maintaining attendance for grant records
- Persons in this role are identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSA’s will be trained and responsible for reporting Clery Reportable Crimes to Campus Police as required by the Clery Act.
- Regular attendance during normally scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position.


- Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred degree in counseling or social work, and or licensed as an LLP, LPC or MSW.

- Experience in the manufacturing or workforce development sector
- Application of Listening, Reasoning, and Judgement and decision-making skills required
- Prefer National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) at a silver level or higher
- Prefer proven work experience as a career coach or advisor serving adults with diverse backgrounds and barriers

Physical Demands
- Ability to lift 15lbs and stand for 30-45 minutes at a time.
- Ability to drive or travel to employer locations and local community partner locations is required. Valid driver’s license and the ability to provide transportation to meetings in the State of Michigan.
