Job Summary

Under limited supervision, the Lab Aide’s primary responsibilities include active proctoring in the testing room and serving as the technical support person on the AM shift. The Lab Aide/Testing Room Proctor works and interacts effectively with faculty, staff, and students to create a secure, efficient, and courteous work environment.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Monitor the testing room by walking through the room at regular intervals and by real time observation of audio/video surveillance to ensure integrity and security of test-taking.
Trouble-shoot any hardware/software or Canvas issues that arise.
Assist students whose completed exams involve special uploading procedures.
Assist students with tablets, apps, and engineering program usage.
Work with and protect confidential information.
Operate electronic mail and messaging systems.
May use Excel spreadsheets.
Maintain the cleanliness of testing area.
Enforce required policies and procedures firmly and courteously.
Provide accurate and consistent information in a clear and articulate manner.
Provide excellent customer service to all visitors to the testing center.
Assist Lab Coordinator with other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree. Applicant must have 1 year paid experience in a computer-related or customer service-related position; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional work experience may be substituted for education, or additional education may be substituted for work experience.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Prefer familiarity with Canvas, thin clients, and tablets. Computer trouble-shooting skills are a plus.
Must be detail-oriented.
Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written (ability to read, speak and write English).
Must possess ability and willingness to establish rapport with a wide variety of people/clients (students/staff/faculty).
Must be team-oriented and possess the ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.
Able to anticipate needs and manage time wisely.
Ability to perform duties with limited supervision.
Ability to manage conflict in a calm and effective manner.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software.
Knowledge of College policies, procedures, operations, and information system helpful.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Special Instructions

Work schedule until May 17th:
Monday – Friday: 8:00 am – 12:30 pm
Beginning May 17th:
Monday-Thursday: 7:45 am – 2:00 pm and
Friday: 7:45 am – 12:00 pm
Extended hours will be required during finals period (May, August, and December).
