JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A full-time NIH-funded postdoctoral scholar position is immediately available in Joseph Wang’s laboratory (https://www.cryoem.psu.edu/ ) in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Penn State University College of Medicine. The research in Dr. Wang’s lab focuses on dissecting virus structures during the viral life cycle using cryo-electron microscope (cryo-EM).

The successful candidate will investigate the structures of subviral particles from woodchuck hepatitis virus as well as human hepatitis B virus to understand the morphogenesis of these subviral particles. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in cellular biology and virology; preferably have profound knowledge in HBV biology. Experience with electron microscope and chromatography will be valuable; however, it is not a requirement.

We seek a collegial, self-motivated, independent, and intellectually curious individual who by the time of appointment should have a PhD in a related field. Applicants must have strong cell culture skills, and familiarity with techniques such as protein / virus purification and characterization, protein chemistry, fluorescence, and electron microscopy. The training for these techniques will also be provided as necessary. The position is initially available for one year with a possibility of renewal, based on productivity. Salary will be commensurate with experience, and full benefits are included.
