JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Townsend Lab is recruiting a motivated, enthusiastic, and highly organized postdoctoral associate to join our growing team in The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Penn State College of Medicine.

We are focused on understanding the interactions between our bodies and the human gut microbiota by characterizing the molecular mechanisms underlying this relationship.  We are seeking a skilled postdoc to collaborate within an established research team dedicated to characterizing the determinants governing microbial colonization of the mammalian intestine.

The applicant will preferably have experience with thin-layer, affinity, and liquid chromatographic techniques to fractionate bacterial metabolites, mucosal glycans and other biomolecules.  Experience culturing microbes is advantageous and excellent aseptic technique is required.  This opportunity will provide training in complementary techniques and the candidate will receive robust verbal and written communication mentoring and support.  Furthermore, the successful candidate will have many opportunities to supervise and instruct undergraduate and graduate students to enhance your marketable skills.

Qualified candidates should have recently finished or will soon complete their PhD research and have a strong scientific research publication record.  Interested individuals should submit a brief letter of interest stating their research interests and expected start date along with their curriculum vitae and the names of 3 professional references
