Position Summary:

The Scientist will work on the Grassland 2.0 modelling team developing a decision support system for scenario-based evaluations of ecosystem services and economic outcomes associated with agricultural landscapes. The Scientist will be expected to advance agricultural land use planning using models and empirical data by creating predictive models for ecosystem services. He or she will be expected to identify and develop new methods for incorporating biodiversity and other responses into the decision-support platform. This will include implementation of modules for landscape- and local-scale effects of agricultural land-use management on biodiversity responses and indicators of environmental health. The Scientist will help lead trainings, develop reproducible data cleaning and analysis pipelines, write papers, and communicate results and information.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

The successful applicant must have obtained their PhD degree by the start date and should have a strong background in statistical analysis, data science techniques, modeling, ecosystem services, entomology, agricultural systems, or decision support systems.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Experience in quantitative ecosystem or biodiversity modeling.
Experience with the SSURGO dataset.
Minimum of 2 years experience analyzing multivariate and large datasets.
Minimum of 2 years experience with R programming language.
Experience developing decision-support systems.
Experience developing and creating data products (i.e. Shiny Apps, RPubs).
Experience creating and managing GitHub repositories.
At least 3 years postdoctoral experience or equivalent.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

License or Certificate:

Degree or certificate in Data Science preferred.
