Position Overview

This postdoctoral appointment in theoretical and computational chemistry/molecular physics will support the research program of Dr. Dmitri Babikov. The project will focus on the development of a mixed quantum/classical method for the description of molecular collisions, and on applications of this technique to rotationally and vibrationally inelastic scattering processes relevant to astrophysics and astrochemistry. Recent publications on this topic are: J. Phys. Chem. A 124, 9877-9888 (2020), Comp. Phys. Com. 252, 107155 (2020). This is a 12-month position expected to start on 05/23/2021.

Duties and Responsibilities

Carry out research in theory development, the improvement of custom computer code, and the processing of large-scale simulations using NERSC resources. Conduct research with a significant degree of independence, working with and supervising graduate students. Provide research summaries and reports, and write first drafts of manuscripts.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Earned doctorate (or its foreign equivalent) or appropriate terminal degree.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Candidates should be highly motivated, with a strong background in theory. Prior experience with quantum dynamics methods and good programming skills are needed. Familiarity with a suite of MQCT programs is a plus.
