Work-based Learning (WBL) is the meaningful connection to bridge academic course work with in-demand career opportunities. WBL opportunities allow students to directly apply skills learned in the classroom to future career opportunities. WBL bridges the gap between high schools, post-secondary education, and the workforce.
The Director is responsible for the strategic planning and development of work-based learning initiatives including internships, apprenticeships, co-operative education, practicums, and job shadowing creating an intentional focus on ways to help students advance in their careers and help the local industry build and sustain a pipeline of talent.

This individual will work with a variety of state agencies, local business partners, secondary and post-secondary educational leaders, and local stakeholders to coordinate work-based learning efforts including developing and maintaining Registered Apprenticeship Programs. The Director will foster and maintain strong relationships with employers, local leaders, and professional networks. This person will strategically plan and execute the development and delivery of resources, programs and work-based learning initiatives to support student success.

Principal Accountabilities
- Create, collaborate, and execute a strategic vision for work-based learning to include the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans, and short-term operational plans
- Develop and maintain employer outreach programs to increase the number and quality of partner employers for internship and apprenticeship opportunities for students across all divisions
- Participate in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic initiatives and operational apprenticeship models
- Oversee and monitor the development and retention of relationships with external business partners and secondary educational partners for the purpose of internships, apprenticeships, and other work-based learning opportunities
- Work in a collaborative, open, and transparent manner with other divisions at the College and in the community with a special focus on business relationships in order to enhance work-based learning opportunities for students
- Serve as the primary liaison between the College, state and local agencies, secondary educational institutions, and potential employers
- Clearly define performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provide ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Conduct formal performance evaluations for staff
- Actively pursue leads on work-based learning sponsors and participants and works with local areas on identifying solutions to workforce needs
- Monitor, analyze, and evaluate current programs and apprenticeships offered through the department, implement and direct new programs under the supervision of the Associate Provost
- Participates in regional and statewide events to raise awareness of Sinclair’s Work-based Learning Programs and Services Engage in professional associations and community activities to promote the objectives of the college and the department
- Responsible for fiscal planning and budget management for the department, including all operations and staffing matters Work directly with Sinclair’s Grants Office, Grants Accounting, and state representatives on the administration and compliance of all grants received, including implementation
- In collaboration with other departments, surveys graduates and employers to ensure programs meet or exceed current job market demands and employer needs are met
- Work collaboratively with other departments in the college to ensure accurate and complete student and alumni database records, captures employer contacts, and career placement information of graduates
- Measure outcomes of office, student programs, and apprenticeship requirements and report results to stakeholders.
- Serve as an active and engaged member of the leadership team for the Office of the Provost which may include college and division responsibilities
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum of a master’s degree in a related field required
- Minimum of seven years of directly related work experience in Human Resources and Talent Acquisition, Business Management, Government Relations, apprenticeships, internships, higher education, or related field required.
- Previous experience managing an operational budget, including federal, state, or private grants required
- In-depth knowledge and skill in overseeing and developing college-level internship programs
- Experience in workforce development and in implementing or participating in an Apprenticeship program required
- Understanding of Ohio Apprenticeship System, legislation and regulations of the programs preferred
- Working knowledge of career development and the labor market in areas served by Sinclair
- Strategic planning and implementation; goal-setting experience required
- Ability to coordinate work across subject areas and agencies, facilitate and negotiate deals in order to achieve a common goal preferred
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, colleagues, students, staff, and employers of diverse ethnic cultural and economic backgrounds, as well as ability levels required
- Ability to provide independent judgment in the formulation and recommendation of initiatives, programs, and policy required
- Excellent listening, writing, and oral communication skills required
- Ability to work occasional evening hours and weekend special events required Must have a valid driver’s license required
