Job Title- PT RESIDENT ASSISTANT (Pool)
Position Status- Part Time
Classification Title- Part-Time Clerk-Up to 19 hpw
Work Location- Main Campus-3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX
Job Summary- The Resident Assistant Role assist in Midland College and Residence Life by fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere for students and staff. RAs are instrumental in building a sense of community among residents. Through organizing social events and facilitating group activities, they encourage interactions that lead to strong friendships and support networks, contributing significantly to students’ overall well-being. They offer initial support, lend a listening ear, and provide referrals to counseling services when needed, ensuring that students have access to the help they require. The Resident Assistant will help Hall Managers address situations in the halls and resolve issues quickly and effectively. RAs will be trained in emergency procedures and can provide immediate assistance during crises. Their regular rounds and enforcement of residence hall policies contribute to a secure environment, giving residents peace of mind. Additionally, RAs will be able to provide knowledge of campus services and recourses to residents. They provide customer service to students, parents, and guests in-person, via phone and email. Resident Assistant should possess energetic enthusiasm, the desire to learn, lead and educate, and the ability to maintain professionalism in their appearance. Resident Assistants should have a team-oriented attitude that displays their desire to serve and communicate with the public as a positive representative of Midland College. Audible communications skills will be necessary for the indoor/outdoor tour responsibility. Overall, the presence of RAs significantly enhances the residential life experience by promoting community, supporting mental health, resolving conflicts, ensuring safety, and providing valuable resources and educational opportunities for residents.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have lived on campus for at least one semester prior to applying for the RA position and currently live on campus for the semester(s) applying.
- Currently enrolled in classes at Midland College as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more per semester)
- Computer literacy
- Basic keyboarding, and data entry skills
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated reliability, responsibility, and sound judgment
- Must be security-sensitive and able to adhere to FERPA regulations regarding student privacy
- Commitment to attending all required trainings, meetings, conferences, and other staff activities
Preferred Qualifications
- Customer service experience
- Public speaking skills
- Proper phone etiquette
- Previous experience in a residential life or leadership role
Essential Functions
- Building Community: Foster a sense of belonging and community among residents by organizing and participating in social and educational programs and activities, creating and maintaining residence hall bulletin boards, create door decorations for residents. Encourage residence to participate in campus activities.
- Peer Support: Serve as a resource and mentor to residents, providing guidance, support, and referrals to campus resources as needed while adhering to FERPA regulations regarding student privacy.
- Conflict Resolution: Address conflicts and concerns within the residence hall, facilitating constructive dialogue and promoting a respectful living environment.
- Safety and Security: Monitor the residence hall environment, enforce college policies and procedures, be on a nightly on-call rotation, conduct duty rounds in all residence life spaces, and respond appropriately to emergencies or incidents while maintaining security-sensitive information and complying with FERPA regulations.
- Administrative Duties: Assist with administrative tasks such as maintaining accurate resident records, conducting room inspections, work the front desk as needed, and reporting maintenance issues in a manner that respects student privacy and FERPA guidelines.
- Early Move-In and Late Move-Out: RAs are required to move into the residence halls early before the start of the semester and stay late after the semester ends to assist with orientation, move-in/move-out processes, and other responsibilities as assigned.
- Training and Meetings: Attend all required trainings, meetings, conferences, and other staff activities to stay informed, updated, and engaged in the RA role.
- Assist Hall Managers and the Residence Life Department as needed.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

Security Sensitivity- All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
Min Salary- $10.25 per hour
Max Salary- $10.25 per hour
