Job Summary

Under the general direction of the ePortfolio Coordinator, assists in daily operation of the ePortfolio Lab(s) by providing assistance to students, faculty, and staff, as well as maintaining all equipment in the lab. Uses discretion in identifying and resolving complex problems and assignments related to SLCC’s ePortfolio initiative.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

• Answers, evaluates, and prioritizes frequent in-person and online requests in a lab environment relating to currently supported ePortfolio platforms (Digication —both the classic and new versions). Working knowledge of the following is also helpful: Jimdo, Wix, Wordpress, Google Sites, Weebly, and Yola.
• Assists students in developing, scanning, and uploading/showcasing multi-modal and multimedia assignments and reflections into their ePortfolios on both lab computers and stakeholders’ laptops/tablets.
• Works with a variety of Web 2.0 platforms to help students develop and showcase assignments and/or reflections.
• Queries students to collect information about issues with their ePortfolio and leads him/her through logical steps to help student determine the best solution to the request.
• Helps students with the reflection process in their ePortfolios.
Logs and tracks visits to the lab and assistance requests, and maintains history records of same.
• Writes or revises training manuals, handouts, flyers, etc. under the direction of the ePortfolio Coordinator
• Maintains and updates all lab equipment: scanners, Macs, and printers.
• Installs computers, software, and peripheral equipment when necessary.
• Interacts with and may influence department in decisions about ePortfolio platforms, software, and training workshops for stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Macs, a variety of personal computer laptops, scanners, printers, a variety of ePortfolio and other Web 2.0 platforms, Microsoft and Adobe software, and MySLCC.
• Willingness to travel to other campuses and assist in other labs.
• Teach ePortfolio workshops for General Education instructors.
• Produce multi-modal/multimedia publications.
• Teach students, faculty, staff, and administrators about the purpose and benefits of ePortfolios.
• Teach students how to use Digication and other multi-modal/multimedia Web 2.0 and other platforms such as Weebly.
• Demonstrates a rational and organized approach to working with multiple stakeholders at a time in person, over the phone, online and/or via email.
• Identifies and negotiates own ePortfolio development.
• Ability to work in as a team with other lab specialists and the ePortfolio Coordinator.
• Exhibits sufficient communication skills for effective dialogue with all stakeholders about the ePortfolio initiative.
• Able to plan, schedule, and monitor own work on short notice. Can absorb technical information when it is presented systematically and apply it effectively to help all stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate:
• Has excelled in at least twelve credit hours of college courses.
• Is proficient with the College’s currently supported ePortfolio platform (Digication).
• Has created and maintains a high-quality ePortfolio.
• Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Can learn new ePortfolio and other Web 2.0 platforms quickly and be able to explain them to all stakeholders, especially students at different levels of technological abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent plus six credit hours of college or equivalent job-related technical experience. Comfortable learning new technologies.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Good communications skills (written, oral, and visual). 

• Must be extremely customer-service oriented. 

• Ability to work closely with team members and a variety of different stakeholders, often at once. 

• Good organizational skills and the ability to work with staff/faculty/students at all skill/management levels. 

• Must be creative, flexible, and open-minded.
• Ability to learn ePortfolio and other Web 2.0 platforms and procedures quickly. 

• Strong working knowledge of personal computers, including hardware setup/troubleshooting, software installation, and general maintenance. 

• Strong understanding of the rationale behind ePortfolio pedagogy.
• Strong working knowledge of Internet browsers. 

• Ability to work with PC and Mac platforms.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Special Instructions

This position is located in the Office of Learning Advancement.

The individual filling this position will be expected to be scheduled for 20 plus hours a week.

This specialist may be required to work at various SLCC campuses throughout the week—Jordan, South City or Redwood Campuses.
