Director, Corporate Communications

Your Role

The Communications and Corporate Citizenship team is responsible for the reputation of Blue Shield of California with all audiences-internal and external. The Corporate Communications Director will report to the Senior Director of Corporate Communications. In this role you will lead a team that supports internal and external communications for People & Engagement, Operations, Finance and Law. In addition, this role will oversee our enterprise-wide executive visibility strategy, ensuring that we are connecting the dots across the company and reaching our key audiences and stakeholders. The director may also be called upon to lead special initiatives and additional portfolios of work as needed. Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for communications leads/teams supporting two or more business units, CEO directs, lines of business and/or key company initiatives.
  • Partner with executive leadership and key stakeholders to design and implement strategic Communications plans in support of Blue Shield of California priorities with the goal of establishing, advancing and maintaining a favorable corporate reputation with targeted audiences, including employees, providers, brokers, public officials, opinion leaders, regulators, consumers and media
  • Create employee communications that provide clarity, confidence and connection to our mission, strategy and leadership team
  • Design executive visibility programs to build our brand and reputation and develop message platforms to ensure we tell a consistent story
  • Oversee, develop and/or support corporate communications campaigns and strategies on corporate priorities
  • Support team's development of creative concepts and leverage insights, best practices and a variety of media to continuously improve our communications approach across internal and external audiences
  • Coach team to prepare executives for speaking engagements and enterprise-wide meetings and events through the development of presentations, messaging documents, speeches and talking points
  • Lead team to promote Blue Shield messages and strategy through various channels like media relations, meetings and events, and change communications
  • Lead the enterprise-wide executive visibility strategy, ensuring that we are connecting the dots across the company and reaching our key audiences and stakeholders
  • Manage and mentor other team members to learn, grow and contribute to a high-performing team


Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Requires BS/BA with 15+ years' experience in strategic communications, including a demonstrated track record of providing advice and counsel to management, developing and executing successful communications strategies and programs
  • Requires 5+ years people leadership experience
  • Requires strong interest in health care and the ability to create thoughtful, original content
  • Requires broad understanding of all facets of communications, including knowledge and understanding of social media
  • Requires the ability to think strategically and create strategic and implementation plans that drive results
  • Requires experience in strategic communications, including a demonstrated track record of providing advice and counsel to management, developing and executing successful communications strategies and programs
  • Requires excellent verbal and presentation skills, executive presence, professionalism, and ability to influence C-level executives and build partnerships at all levels
  • Requires outstanding creative writing skills with ability to capture executive voice and simplify and elevate their content
  • Requires seasoned project management skills with ability to develop and execute multiple end-to-end programs concurrently with little oversight

Pay Range:

The pay range for this role is: $ 165990.00 to $ 248930.00 for California.

Note:

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
