Position Summary

Reporting to the Dean of the Law School, the Senior Advisor to the Dean

plays a crucial role in providing senior-level support and managing

significant projects and activities for the Dean’s Office.

 

This position involves strategic oversight of partnerships, operations, outreach, and planning efforts. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, capable of

managing the Dean’s Office with efficiency and executing key initiatives.

 

Flexibility for occasional evening and weekend work is required

 

Essential Functions        

  • Leads and guides the Dean’s projects and strategic planning efforts, ensuring timely progress and achievement of goals.
  • Forges and maintains professional relationships to enhance the law school’s community engagement, leadership, and public affairs objectives, serving as a key liaison for the Dean.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for the Dean’s Office, coordinating and preparing materials for meetings and events.
  • Researches and advises on the adoption of legal degree and non-degree programs given their value to legal institutions and fit with Fordham Law School.
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, and systems to support the Dean’s objectives effectively.
  • Participates in meetings with certain stakeholders.
  • Ensures the minutes of faculty meetings are properly recorded.
  • Represents the Dean at various meetings the Dean cannot attend.
  • Manages communication flow within the Dean’s Office and other departments to ensure clarity and effectiveness.
  • Employs problem-solving skills to address and resolve issues requiring the Dean’s intervention, maintaining confidentiality, and providing support and advice.
  • Optimizes the Dean’s calendar, delegating scheduling and administrative tasks to enhance productivity.
  • Assists in preparing speeches, talking points, and other communications on behalf of the Dean.

Management Responsibilities  

Supervises the work of other Fordham employees who are individual contributors. Responsible for hiring, training and developing, managing performance and administering corrective action. Has significant input in compensation decisions.

         

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience        

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Minimum of five years of higher education administration

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills     

  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and effective judgment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and diplomacy in handling confidential and sensitive information.

 

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a senior team.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in public institutions

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $100,000

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $125,000

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
