Scope of Position

As an Associate Asset Manager, you will be responsible for report compilation and monitoring of operational and financial performance of the renewable assets in the region. In this role you will practice the processes for managing, maintaining, and optimizing various types of power plants as well as various risks associated with different PPA offtake and Tax Equity structures. You will also be expected to comply with EDFR culture of safety wile exhibiting safety behaviors in line with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability (HSES) standards and EDFR safety policies. You will become familiar and comply with internal compliance protocols, policies, Code of Ethics, and procedures.

As an Asset Manager you will be overseeing 2 - 4 renewable energy projects with a particular focus on financial and operational performance. Your day-to-day tasks will be associated with reviewing contracts, addressing commercial issues, and adhering to all compliance items to deliver the highest value from the assets and meet annual KPI targets. You will be working with internal and external SMEs and communicating with the project Investors to make sure risks are mitigated and opportunities for improvement are captured. You will also be expected to foster a culture of safety by performing safety observations and/or team engagements while exhibiting safety behaviors in line with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability (HSES) standards as well as comply with all internal controls, Code of Ethics, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities
    Manage GAAP and IFRS EBITDAs for each assigned asset which amongst other things include developing and monitoring annual budgets, cash flow oversight and analysis; compliance with supporting financial instruments such as Corporate Guarantees and Letters of Credit. Adhere to RCSRs and DCSRs governance, including associated notifications and protocols to assure project bills get paid.
  • Closely monitor operational and financial performance of the assets while driving towards meeting and beating annual performance metrics to deliver the highest returns. Engage internal and external SMEs to help in identifying financial, commercial, and operational risks so the appropriate actions can be taken to mitigate them or escalate to management if necessary. Understand how energy markets operate and how generation is monetized, i.e., PPAs, hedges, organized markets, capacity payments, bilateral agreements, RECs, FTRs, CRRs. Works closely with AO Portfolio Management team responsible for internal and external lifelong IRR targets as well as Valuations and Analytics team to mitigate energy market risks.
  • Proficient in deciphering contracts' language and recognizing need when legal support is required (i.e., LLCAs, ECCAs, PPAs, IAs) to reduction or mitigation of project risks and contractual compliance. Seeks to understand applicable local, state, regional and federal laws associated with the project and the environment of the energy industry. e. FERC, NERC, ISOs, EPA, etc. Ensure the completion of all compliance obligations pursuant to contract requirements and regulatory agencies (including EIA, CEC, FERC) in timely fashion.
  • Has the technical foundation of harnessing energy resources, principles of grid operations, interconnection systems, and methods of grid integration of the renewable energy assets. Engages Subject Matter Experts in resolving technical issues to help in making competent commercial decisions. Understands corrective and preventive Operation & Maintenance (O&M) practices at the project site while focusing on maximizing assets availability and identifying sources of underperformance without jeopardizing the importance of Safety.
  • Owns collaborative relationship building with internal and external stakeholders to optimize project performance and deliver on project compliance. Continuously develops and improves negotiation skills to navigate conflicts, find common grounds, deliver on projects' contractual obligations and investors' returns.
  • Supports the organization with variety of activities including participating in improvement initiatives to deliver on the success of the region, the business unit and EDFR.

Associate Asset Manager:

  • Understand basic principles of GAAP and IFRS accounting practices.
  • Monitor projects performance and research opportunities for improvements.
  • Know the list of applicable contracts and permits associated with renewable energy asset, not only what they are, but how they impact the projects lifetime operations and how to find the necessary contractual information in support of compliance.
  • Understand what affects project's availability and the differences in various availability calculations based on the type of renewable energy resource measured, as well as the basic maintenance activities required to keep site running.
  • Work collaboratively with diverse group of internal stakeholders to optimize project performance and deliver on project compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

80% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 20% of time is spent outside of the office visiting project sites in addition to attending various conferences and meetings.

Qualifications
  • Four-year degree and a minimum of 4 -6 years of applicable working experience preferred, (1 -3 years of applicable working experience preferred for Associate Asset Manager) or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Advanced degree (MS or MBA), or certifications (Asset Management Certification, PMP, Lean Six Sigma etc.) are all pluses.
  • Requires understanding of contracts' structures as well as previous exposure to renewable energy project management.
  • Prior experience with operations, asset management, project management or energy markets preferred.
  • Adaptability to changing market conditions and ability to solve complex problems that may arise during operations of an asset.
  • Understanding how regional ISOs, RTOs and bilateral markets operate.
  • Exceptional analytical skills (data crunching, deciphering the data and connecting the dots with financial modeling experience being a bonus)
  • Previous accounting or finance training preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand contracts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data management tools (SAP) is a plus.
  • Above average skills with excel, Tableau, Python, or similar.

Physical Requirements:

  • Candidates should be prepared to work primarily in an office environment with occasional visits to renewable asset sites across Canada, including wind farms, solar farms and battery storage sites.
  • (Associate Asset Manager) Employee will need to be able to perform normal standing, bending, etc. with the need to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Outside of the office, employee will be required to climb, lift, bend, etc.

Associate Asset Manager: Annual base salaray range is between $72,000 - $120,000

Asset Manager: Annual base salaray range is between $91,000 - $152,000
