Essential Job Duties

The Accounting Technician at the Office of Business Services within the Poole College of Management plays a pivotal role in maintaining and reporting financial accounting data. This position reports to the Budget Analyst and will be responsible for the financial stewardship of foundation funds, state appropriations, university gifts, and trust funds.

The Accounting Technician position at the Office of Business Services offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to the financial management and stewardship of funds within the Poole College of Management.  You will be involved by performing technical accounting duties with a focus on double-entry accounting, reconciling accounts, verifying entries, and ensuring the integrity of financial functions.

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule.

Minimum Experience/Education

High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in an business office with responsibilities to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliation.
  • Strong working knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts and use good judgment in organizing and setting priorities, and format of work.
  • Ability to research, record, and analyze information and recommend solutions and have considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Self-starter who seeks to build consensus with the constituency, with a strong customer service focus.
  • Ability to interpret policies, rules, regulations, and procedures governing financial services at NC State.
  • Ability to communicate successfully in verbal and written form and provide excellent public contact and telephone skills.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and collectively as a team member.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in PeopleSoft Financials, WOLF Reporting, and MS Office Suite, including excel.
  • Ability to navigate complexities of financial administration for the University to include proficiency in the essential steps for various types of financial transactions.
  • Experience working with various fund types to include state appropriations, foundation trust funds, university trust funds, and grants.
  • Experience working in a university setting.
