Personalized medicine is an area of growth and commitment for UNLV. It is an important part of the UNLV Top Tier initiative and will increase institutional status through enhanced R&D and graduate programs. The Nevada Institute of Personalized Medicine (NIPM) recently became a Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE), and was awarded an $11.4 M P20 COBRE grant from NIH. These positions will work in collaborative teams both on and off campus to address critical health and medical issues in the community. These issues include access and affordability of health care and the prevalence of diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, and diabetes. There are opportunities to collaborate with partners that have unique capabilities, such as the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, and the Veteran's Administration Hospital. In addition, UNLV has also established centers of excellence through National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for clinical translational research (IDeA-CTR) and infrastructure building in bioinformatics as part of the IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE).

This position may be in a variety of academic departments, including School of Public Health, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Nursing, Dental Medicine, or the School of Medicine. The institute will build excellence in personalized medicine to discover new applications of personalized medicine and improve health services and outcomes. The institute has 5 core faculty and ~20 affiliate faculty at UNLV already working in these areas. We seek candidates with research interests, expertise and accomplishments in bioinformatics, genomics, human genetics, biostatistics, genome sequencing, and/or genetic testing.


Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track):

Applicants must have a PhD in a field related to Bioinformatics. Genomics, or Personalized Medicine, from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of two (2) years' additional research experience. The candidate should have a track record of published original work supporting their potential to run and independent laboratory.

Associate or Full Professor (Tenured):

Applicants must have a PhD in a field related to Bioinformatics. Genomics, or Personalized Medicine, from a regionally accredited college or university. Applicants should also have a track record of publication, a demonstrated ability to secure external funding to run their laboratory, and the ability to teach in these areas.

Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.


Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.

Pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 3 passed by the Nevada State Legislature during the 31st Special Legislative Session, employees are required to take furlough at a 4.6 percent monthly reduction in compensation from January 1, 2021 through June 30, 2021.
