Starting Salary is $48,360. There is currently a Market Adjustment, subject to annual review, in the amount of $9,200 in addition to the base salary. Summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need. Compensation package is comprised of many College paid benefits including health and life insurance, retirement, vacation and sick leave time, and tuition waivers for Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.
The Information Technology Education (ITE) Programs department prepares students for careers within network administration, computer support, computer programming and other technical occupations in the information technology field. ITE currently offers seven certificate programs, four Associate of Science degrees and one Bachelor of Applied Science degree with three concentrations. The department is currently seeking a full-time nine (9)-month Assistant Professor to promote and encourage student success in computer science through quality instruction and real-world learning experiences beginning Fall 2024.
Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor, ITE Networking and Security will develop, prepare, teach, and assess a variety of networking concepts consisting of teaching assignments, which may include computer repair, Windows Server, Linux and Cisco Networking Academy, and Cloud Management courses, as well as other subject areas. Teaching courses in the Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in Information Systems Technology may also be required. Course offerings within ITE may be taught during the day and evening, using a variety of learning modalities, such as in-person, online, hybrid, and hyflex. SFC’s full-time ITE faculty have a nine (9) month base contract teaching 15 credit hours in the fall and 15 credit hours in the spring. Summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Planning, creating, organizing, assessing, updating, and delivering networking instruction in laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting (e.g., utilizing video-based supplemental instruction).
- Earning and maintaining recognized industry certifications, including CompTIA certification in A+, Network+, Security+, and Linux+, as well as CCNA Routing and Switching.
- Collaborating with colleagues to evaluate, develop, and revise curricula, as well as pedagogical methods enhancing student mastery of course content (e.g., aligning industry certifications to existing and/or new curricula).
- Supporting the mission of the department and College to promote student learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, faculty scholarship, professional development, and service.
- Identifying ways in which the department can work collaboratively to build strong community partnerships (e.g., establishing a network of community members to participate on the ITE Advisory Committee).
- Implementing college policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with the Santa Fe College philosophy, values, and mission.
- Documenting student progress and maintaining records including attendance and student learning outcomes on the course level as well as the program of study level.
- Honoring student confidentiality and privacy as per appropriate laws, regulations, and College rules.
- Participating in departmental meetings, mentorship of new faculty, committee work, and completing staff assignments as requested.
- Working a flexible schedule at multiple campus sites.
- Providing and promoting service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required: Master’s degree or higher in a qualifying field, or master’s degree or higher with at least 18 graduate hours in any combination of the qualifying fields, or alternative academic major related to Information Technology and/or qualifying fields and 3 to 5 years of work-related experience in the field with demonstrated evidence of proficiency.
Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.
Preferred: Doctoral degree in a qualifying field with an appropriate focus on networking. Long-term industry experience and/or extensive working knowledge of networking. Industry Standard certifications in Networking or Security.
Under special circumstances, faculty members may have experience that clearly contributes to student learning outcomes and can be considered in lieu of formal academic preparation. In these cases, the applicant may present a portfolio that documents such experience. The institution also considers competence in the field, professional licensure and certificates, honors and awards, continuous documented excellence in teaching, or other demonstrated competencies and achievements that contribute to effective teaching and student learning outcomes. - Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
