POSITION TITLE: Research Technician

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Working directly and in conjunction with Scripps Research faculty and outside users, technicians assist in the design, execution and analysis of projects within the Core.
  • Assist users in assessing their experimental needs, act as a resource by fielding questions in available methods.
  • Perform experiments on behalf of users.
  • Ensure instruments are maintained.
  • Perform other lab duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A bachelor's degree in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology or related field is required. Three (3) to six (6) years of related laboratory experience may be considered in lieu of a related degree.
  • Minimum 1 year of related laboratory experience, including experimental design and implementation. Volunteer and/or unpaid internships of related laboratory experience accepted.
  • Basic laboratory bench experience including pipetting, concentration calculations/conversions, etc.
  • Proficient communication skills - both written and verbal communication of ideas to develop experimental approaches in collaboration with other researchers (including an array of people from a wide variety of cultural and educational backgrounds, individually or in groups).
  • The following are not required, but will be considered favorably: Experience in any of the biophysical techniques - Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), BioLayer Interferometry (BLI), Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC), Circular dichroism (CD), UV-Vis Spectroscopy (UV Spec), Mass Photometry (MP), Analytical Ultracentrifugation (AUC), Miro-Scale Thermophoresis (MST), and Phosphor/Gel/Western Imaging.
  • One-on-one mentoring or teaching experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $18.67 to $24 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
